National Treasures From the Smithsonian Institution
From the National Numismatic Collection, the Smithsonian Institution will display for the first time in Texas, "Good as Gold - America's Double Eagles," an educational exhibit that shows the evolution of the $20 denomination gold coins from 1849 to 1933. The California Gold Rush spurred the creation of the Double Eagles, the largest coins to circulate in the United States. The exhibit includes some of the world's most historic and valuable coins: a unique 1849-dated Double Eagle (pictured); one of the famous 1933 Double Eagles; and gold coins from President Teddy Roosevelt that were designed by renowned sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
